What even is Black Friday?
Black Friday is a frighteningly large retail event that will take place on 29th November 2019. A long-standing tradition in the US, it’s generally known as one of the biggest shopping days of the year as everyone looks to snap up a bargain after Thanksgiving. In recent years, though, it’s grown to become a global phenomenon as retailers from around the world compete to host the biggest sales.
While you can absolutely get yourself an amazing discount on big-budget tech items and more during Black Friday, the determination from some sellers to get in on the sales means they may stretch the truth a little with their offers. Be sure to check the item you’re buying is actually reduced before a snap purchase. Or, you can follow all of our Black Friday deals pages to only ensure you’re seeing the best of the best.
Oh, and remember, Black Friday is no longer just a single day event either. Many places will run offers in the weeks prior and following the 29th November. The biggest of these will be available on Cyber Monday on 2nd December! We’ll be sure to bring you all those offers right here, too.
What are our Xbox Black Friday deal predictions for this year?
Cheap consoles. What more could you ask for? With the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition already as low at £170 there probably won’t be a massive saving to be found there. When we look at the standard Xbox One S, though, that has every chance of tumbling down to the £200 mark or below with a game or two thrown in. It’s already fallen that far recently with Gears 5, FIFA 20 and The Division 2!
It’ll be very interesting to see what kind of offers are made available for games, too. Many Xbox One owners are starting to shy away from lots of physical releases with the ascent of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. This subscription service allows you to download from a rolling library of games that includes all first-party titles and many recent releases.
Still, we expect a good handful of popular physical releases will see some good discounts. Look for many of this year’s sports sims such as FIFA 20 and Madden 20 to drop to £30 or less as they have in the past. We usually see a small reduction on end-of-year AAA releases such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare as well!
Will Black Friday be a good time to buy an Xbox One X?
We think so. Usually, the more premium product as it’s a more powerful console, we expect the Xbox One X to see a healthy discount over Black Friday. Absolutely keep an eye out for the Gears 5 Limited Edition bundle as many of these leftovers will want to be shifted by retailers. Reducing the cost in a big Black Friday sale is an excellent way for them to do this and it could represent some terrific value for you.
What about a good Xbox Game Pass Ultimate deal?
We really like the sound of that. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate has shown itself to be one of the best value gaming subscription services over recent months, so any offer on it would be too good to refuse.
It’s already given players the likes of Gears 5, Sea of Thieves and State of Decay 2 to play ahead of physical release. And even third party hits such as Devil May Cry 5 are being added shortly after launch, too!
If you haven’t tried Xbox Game Pass Ultimate out for yourself just yet you can still sign up for one month for just £1. We could easily see Microsoft extending or improving this offer even further for Black Friday. Keep an eye here or on our page tracking the best price for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate on Jelly Deals.
But isn’t Project Scarlett due for release soon?
True! Microsoft has confirmed that Project Scarlett will be released in ‘Holiday 2020’ so it’s only a year away. On the one hand, that may encourage you to avoid buying an Xbox One during Black Friday as a new console is just around the corner. On the other hand, though, think of the potential discounts as retailers look to sell off their remaining stock before Scarlett’s release. That could mean a huge saving for you on a new Xbox One S or Xbox One X!
What were the best Xbox Black Friday deals last November?
There was quite a spread of Xbox Black Friday deals last year.
With the Xbox One S, we saw the console hit that magic £170 spot with a couple of controllers included. With the addition of a few games such as Red Dead Redemption 2 and Battlefield 5, the price jumped up above the £200 mark. In the US, the official Microsoft Store was offering bundles with a single game around the $200 mark as well.
As for the Xbox One X, the price points we saw with a single game were £360 in the UK and around $400 in the US. That’s still less than the standard price for the console if you went to buy one now from Amazon, so something similar to those numbers when Black Friday gets underway.
Last year’s Black Friday was an ideal time to sort yourself out some new Xbox One accessories too. We saw a whole load of controller and headset deals for very tempted prices. Add to that some of the biggest game from earlier in the year at 50% off or more and you’ve got some tough bargains to match!
Overall, it could be a terrific Black Friday for Xbox. With both the Xbox One S and Xbox One X console expected to drop considerably in price and the potential value in an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, this could be the best time to get caught up with everything you’ve missed this generation.
